Paul Statham was born in Shirebrook,a Derbyshire mining village close to Mansfield.He formed his first band B-MOVIE while still at school and the band quickly signed to Stevos 'Some Bizarre' label .The band released 3 critically acclaimed singles Remembrance day, Nowhere girl and Marilyn dreams, along with an album Forever Running (on the Sire label). After the demise of B-Movie he began working with former/current BAUHAUS vocalist PETER MURPHY on his solo album Love Hysteria, co-writing the singles Indigo Eyes and All Night Long. On the follow up album Deep he co-wrote 7 of the tracks including Murphy's most successful single Cuts You Up, a Billboard modern rock no 1 (13 weeks) which led to Deep becoming a top 40 album in the U.S.A.Continuing to write and play guitar and keyboards with Murphy live on tour, he contributed to the 3rd album Holy Smoke.The 4th and final album Cascade saw Murphy and Statham co-writing the whole thing together,and led to a friendship with producer Pascal Gabriel. On return to London, Statham and Gabriel formed an electro pop group called PEACH and along with singer Lisa Lamb signed to Daniel Millers Mute Records in 1996.The single On My Own featured in the hit comedy film Sliding Doors and went on to become a U.S top 40 single,selling over a million copies. An album Audiopeach was released but the band decided not to continue. In 1998 he co-wrote Here With Me and I'm No Angel with then unsigned singer DIDO. Here with me went on to become a world wide hit and the album No Angel eventually sold 17 million copies. The next few years were spent collaborating with a number of artists including 2 Massive Attack vocalists SHARA NELSON and DOT ALLISON (cowriting her Arista single Close your eyes), and LENA FIAGBY , before heading back to pop , co-writing 2 songs with KYLIE on her no 1 album Fever. At the same time he began collaborating with well known artist and art curator Victor de Circasia who encouraged him to work on visual and audio installations in galleries around the world. From 2001 Statham has had many installations in European galleries and collaborated with the poet Neil Rollinson, painter's Daisy Cook, Giuliana Fresco, Antonella Piro and sculptors Noriaki Maeda, David Mach & Luisa Valentina.June 2004 saw the release of the HELICOPTER GIRL album Voodoo chic which Statham produced and co-wrote 5 tracks from ,(on the Instant Karma Label). From the same label he co wrote with former Alice Band vocalist AMY BELLE and a song entitled blank white sheets co-written with new artist STEPHANIE KIRKHAM appeared on her debut album That Girl. A co-write with new Universal signing KRISTIAN LEONTIOU entitled Here I am was featured on his top 10 single Shining. October 2004 saw the release of Peter Murphy's new album Unshattered including 6 new co -written/produced tracks with Statham.The rest of 2004 was spent cowriting with various artists including SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR, LIZ McLARNON (ATOMIC KITTEN) EMMA BUNTON and AMY STUDT.A co-written track with Pascal Gabriel and Hannah Robinson entitled"I will be there" was covered by RACHEL STEVENS for her new album "Come And Get It" .The first half of 2005 saw the completion of former Alisha's Attic vocalist SHELLY POOLE's debut album "Totally Underwater".The entire album was recorded/mixed at Stathams Loki studio and Shellys Backroom studio.It contains 10 co-written and co-produced songs including the single's "Totally Underwater" "hard time for the dreamer " and "Lost in You"." Summer 2006 saw Statham working with producer MAGNUS FIENNES on his "freefonix" project co writing and co-producing 3 tracks.A track entitled "out of my hands"written with Alice Mcglaughlin has been covered by RnB star KEISHA WHITE and is the title track of her new album released in Autumn 06.
September 2006 also saw collaborations with RnB singer TERRI WALKER and Hip Hop star ESTELLE for the Rhyme4respect project.December 06 saw the start of a writing collaboration with former Spandau Ballet songwriter/guitarist GARY KEMP writing songs for and with a number of artist's ,including west end stage and recording star AMY NUTTALL and "about a girl called Maria" star SIOBHAN DILLON.2 tracks entitled "when Im here with you" and "Endless circles" were recorded with former BLACK BOX RECORDER vocalist SARAH NIXEY for her new album "Sing Memory" released in Feb 2007.The first of these tracks became the first single released in Jan 07.A new debut album was produced for Australian band The Cyclones at RAK studios in London in March 07.8 new songs have been written for young new singer ROXANNE YARNOLD who has supported Westlife,Shane Ward and G4 on their sell out Arena tours performing a selection of the new material.Jan 07 saw new co-writes with ALEX CARTANA .The new as yet untitled HELICOPTER GIRL album is finished and ready for release in 2007 and contains 10 new co-written and produced tracks.Also nearing completion is the new album "In Gold" from SHELLY POOLE containing 10 new co-written and produced tracks.Writing is also underway with Peter Murphy for a new as yet untitled album.2 pieces of music entitled Spire and Architecture have been used at the Rossini festival held through August 2007 in Pesaro Italy.The work also accompanies a new photographic exhibition by PAOLO MAZZANTI in a joint exhibition entitled La Vista Del Tempo held at the Palazzo Lazzarini in Pesaro.2 pieces of Stathams music have also been commisioned by one of Milans most famous artists ALDO ROTA to run through his new exhibition "working Project" held at the Spazio Strato in Milan from September 18th 2007.A new track "Outsider" has been written with WILL YOUNG and Shelly Poole for his forthcoming album released Summer 08.Spring 08 saw the formation of a new project THE MYSTERY'S featuring Shelly Poole Charity Hare and Paul Statham.and pushes the sound of Shelly's debut album "Hard time for the dreamers" into a more intense stripped back affair featuring gorgoeous 2 part harmonies from the girls against a shifting ambient country sound with acoustic guitars.lap steel and banjo playing on top of found sound and electronic treatments.5 songs already recorded.A new track "why me why now written with Hannah Robinson for new Polydor girl band "THE SATURDAYS".
