David Mach Retrospective. Glasgow Museum of modern Art. Scotland. March 2002
David Mach is one of the most established sculptors in the U.K today. A 6
month retrospective of his work was held at the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art
from March 2002. A chance meeting at his studio led to Statham offering to
write a soundtrack to accompany the giant mermaid sculpture that would 'dive'
through
three floors of the museum and would be the gateway to the exhibition.
10 short
pieces of music and 10 pieces of almost silence, to break them up, would run
continuously from speakers high in the roof above the sculpture. Each piece
of music rises from the bed of silence and then disappears back into it, reflecting
the nature of the visual work.
